Public schools are more than a system for educating children.
They are one of the few institutions almost every community in Texas shares.
They are Friday night football and elementary school plays. They are marching bands, science fairs, career programs, playgrounds, libraries and graduation nights. They employ our neighbors, prepare our workforce, anchor neighborhoods and small towns, and bring generations together.
The Public School Movement is the growing effort to put that institution—and its value to the entire community—back at the center of American civic life.
It includes parents and teachers, certainly. But it is much bigger than either group.
It includes grandparents, graduates, employers, mayors, clergy, coaches, taxpayers, business owners, civic organizations and people who haven't had a child in school for decades.
Public schools belong to all of us.

Celebrate what public schools contribute to their communities.
Connect organizations, educators, families, civic leaders and citizens already doing the work.
Strengthen the public understanding and civic infrastructure necessary for excellent public schools.
There is plenty to debate about education.
But there should also be something underneath that debate:
A shared commitment to strong public schools serving every community and every child.
